SENATOBIA — Thursday night’s matchup between the No. 9 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers and No. 8 Pearl River Wildcats resembled more of a MACJC state championship game than a season opener. In a contest where both teams combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and multiple big plays, it was the Rangers that were able to hold off PRCC in overtime to come away with a 56-55 win.
Thrilling doesn’t begin to describe the feel of the contest that was back-and-forth all night long. Veteran coach Ricky Woods, who won state high school titles at South Panola and Ackerman, told his team following the victory at Bobby Franklin Field that he had never been part of a bigger win or one where he was more proud of a team’s overall effort.
