A matchup of two top 15 junior college football teams will highlight the week’s matchups in the MACJC North Division on Thursday as the No. 10 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers (3-1 overall, 1-1 in North Division) play host to No. 15 Northeast (4-0, 2-0) at Bobby Franklin Field. In a game that is always bragging rights, the Rangers have a chance to remain in the hunt for the North Division crown with a win over the Tigers.
NWCC is coming off a 44-21 win over Coahoma last week, while NECC shutout Holmes 21-0 last week to remain undefeated.
The Tigers have relied on a stingy defense to post wins this season. They enter the game only allowing 13 points per game and 196.3 yards per game, two figures that rank them No. 1 in the state overall.
Former Lafayette High standouts Markie Dukes and Devin Slate play for the Tigers. Dukes is listed as a starter at wide receiver, while Slate is playing defensive line for NECC. Dukes has 10 catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns this year. (September 29, 2011, Page 6)
