Several former area baseball players will take part in a Sophomore Showcase on Friday at Hinds Community College. The showcase is open to select players from schools located in Region 23, which also includes Louisiana.
Former LHS standout Denzel Goolsby, who is now playing at Holmes Community College, will be joined by former Water Valley standout Josh Johnson (NWCC), former OHS standouts Phillip Malatesta (NWCC) and Stuart York (NECC) and LHS standout Luke McCullough (NWCC) in the showcase. The event is expected to have between 80 and 150 assistant coaches from four-year schools, according to Hinds coach Sam Temple, who is running the event.
Temple said the annual showcase is the biggest one for sophomores who are looking to move on to a four-year school. Players will take rounds of batting practice, take infield or have balls hit to them in the outfield and then play in two nine inning games during the showcase. (September 15, 2011, Page 7)
