SPORTS BLOG: The Lafayette Commodores opened region play with a convincing 42-0 win over the Lewisburg Patriots Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium.
LHS (7-0 overall, 1-0 in Region 2-4A) jumped out to a 35-0 lead at halftime thanks to three scoring runs by Demarkous Dennis. Dennis scored on runs of 5 and 33 yards in the first quarter, and on a 24-yard run in the second.
‘Dores quarterback Jeremy Liggins connected with Colby Terrell on a 19-yard pass to put LHS ahead 21-0 in the early portion of the second quarter and closed out the first half scoring with a 1-yard quarterback sneak.
Dennis concluded the scoring on the night with an 8-yard run up the middle with 6:36 to play in the third quarter.
The senior running back finished the game with 185 yards on 15 carries and four TDs, and also caught a screen pass for 49 yards.
