BLOG — Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt met with the media after the Rebels’ first practice on Thursday to discuss the status of the team heading into Saturday’s ‘Meet the Rebels’ scrimmage.Nutt talked about his team conditioning following Wednesday’s afternoon practice session and brought up other aspects of his team’s health this afternoon.
“They’ve been going pretty good for the last three days and they’ve hit a point where they are very leg weary, very sore. There are a lot of guys that are fighting through some things,” Nutt said. “It was good to get (LB) Mike Marry back on the field. He looked really good today, very physical. We went through the entire book and I really feel like the terminology, the things we were saying to them in the spring, is so much better now.”
“We’re looking forward to the scrimmage Saturday night. Tomorrow we’ll hit on some things, touch up on kicking and a few points there and then take it off them a little bit and let their legs get underneath them on Saturday and go hard again.”
Nutt went on to say that Saturday’s scrimmage was big to determining a starting lineup and rotation heading into the opener against BYU.
“I’m looking forward to it and to really see who is going to keep coming for us,” Nutt said.
Some of the players that have missed practice the last few days, such as defensive ends Carlos Thompson and Jason Jones and defensive tackles Uriah Grant and Gilbert Pena, did not participate. Linebacker Joel Kight was also held out to rest a strained hamstring Nutt didn’t think was too serious.
