Rangers open summer drills

Area players from all three high schools who signed with Northwest Mississippi Community College earlier this year went through their first practice on Monday night in Senatobia. The Rangers, led by coach Ricky Woods, started work on the 2011 season in the first of a week-long practice schedule that is open to the public.

The Rangers, who are ranked No. 9 in the preseason poll, have 22 practice sessions to use prior to their season opener Sept. 1 against No. 8 Pearl River.

Woods welcomed 55 players to the team and campus Monday morning. The Rangers went 9-1 last season and won the MACJC North Division championship. NWCC finished the year ranked No. 6 in the nation last year by the NJCAA. NWCC enters the season with 16 returnees from that team. All of the Rangers’ games this season can be heard on 93.7 FM, with all four home games being webcast with live video on UStream.tv. (August 9, 2011, Page 6)
