TOMMY GLENN “TOM CAT” FARR – 58, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the University of Wisconsin Medical Center in Madison, Wis. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pontotoc Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Baber officiating. Burial will be in Pontotoc City Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be today from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
LOTTYE CONNER MCCOY – 53, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, at her home near Oxford. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Yellow Leaf Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry East and Bro. Jimmy Sockwell officiating. Interment will be in Yellow Leaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
KATHLEEN BRASSELL WRIGHT – 61, retired line operator, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at her residence in Batesville. Jackson a big part of ‘Dores success
There are a lot of reasons why the Lafayette Commodores have been one of Mississippi’s top teams since the start of the 2009 season. The outstanding play of quarterback Jeremy Liggins and Demarkous Dennis have keyed a potent offense, while players such as D.Q. Reynolds and Keeyon Tyson have led a very productive defensive unit.
But as good as the Commodores’ offensive and defensive units have been during that time period, the special teams, led by do-it-all kicker Tyler Jackson, has also been very productive. (more…) (August 26, 2011, Page 6A)
WVHS hosts rival Pirates; LHS, OHS travel to Delta
The second week of the high school football season continues tonight. Water Valley is the only team at home — the Blue Devils host Coffeeville — while Lafayette and Oxford are both on the road at Greenwood and Charleston, respectively.
Kickoff for all three games is set for 7:30 p.m. LHS can be heard on 93.7 FM and www.q93.7fm.com, WVHS is on 105.5 FM, while OHS is on 95.5 and 102.1 FM.
In a contest that is always highly anticipated and emotionally charged, WVHS coach Brad Embry said he expects to get Coffeeville’s best effort. (August 26, 2011, Page 6A)
