Two arrested in unrelated armed robberies

OPD investigators arrested Morgan Henry, 22, of Oxford for allegedly holding up the Oxford Family Pharmacy for pain medication two weeks ago. Sheriff Department investigators arrested Reggie Benson, 24, of Oxford for being one of several involved in a home invasion robbery Friday. More arrests are expected.

Veterans’ supporters give generously

The campaign, “Stand Behind Those That Stood in Front of Us,” kicked off in March with the group aiming to raise the money by March 2012. More cops hired for Square

After seeing footage of a fight on the Square last Monday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved a request from Oxford Police Department Chief Mike Martin to hire four new police officers to focus on the Downtown Business District.

  • Ida Katherine Patterson “Kate” Hathorn — 95, died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at home in Oxford. Services were held this morning at Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
  • Charlotte Coward Yarborough — 81, died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, in Hattiesburg. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 this evening at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia.

Lafayette’s Mack, Jones talk win over Greenwood

Dean, Chargers wear down Tigers

CHARLESTON — The Oxford Chargers were an opportunistic team on Friday evening.

LHS dominates Greenwood

GREENWOOD — Prior to the season, Lafayette coach Anthony Hart called Friday night’s matchup with Greenwood a “sandwich” game because it came in between the highly anticipated opener with Tupelo and the annual Crosstown Classic matchup with the Oxford Chargers.

Blue Devils throttle Coffeeville Pirates

QB Club to hold first meeting
