Oxford’s Dean earns Player of Week honor

A win is what the Oxford Chargers needed to garner last Friday night at Charleston. After losing a tough opener to Grenada on the road, the Chargers could ill afford another setback heading into this week’s Crosstown Classic at Lafayette.

Thanks to an improved effort across the board, and specifically the running of senior Mont Dean, the Chargers were able to defeat Charleston 38-25 to earn that coveted first victory.

Dean paced the OHS offense against the Tigers much like he did in the opener at Grenada by rushing for 129 yards and three touchdowns scored. Dean has totaled 256 yards, four touchdowns and a 2-point conversion so far in the first two games thanks in large part to his blend of size, speed and power.

It’s his most recent effort that earned him his first Player of the Week honor of the 2011 season. (August 30, 2011, Page 8)
