The Ole Miss women’s tennis team is riding high Tuesday with the addition of blue chip recruit Julia Jones. Jones signed an Southeastern Conference Award letter to become a member of the team. Jones, who hails from Seminole, Fla., rose to as high as No. 6 in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net and No. 1 in Florida.
“The signing of Julia Jones increases the level of this recruiting class,” Ole Miss coach Mark Beyers said. “This class is going to make an immediate impact, and Julia is among those. She was a highly recruited student-athlete.”
Jones won two gold balls and two silver balls in USTA Junior Championships. She was also a Nike Junior Tour national champion and represented the United States at the Bonne Bell Cup in Australia.
“We’re excited to have someone with Mississippi ties, (family is originally from McComb), joining us at Ole Miss,” Beyers added. “She makes our team better immediately.”
No. 18 class
Jones headlines the No. 18 ranked recruiting class in the nation. Joining Jones this fall is Erin Stephens (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), Iris Verboven (Netherlands) and Paige Keating (Menlo Park, Calif.). (August 23, 2011, Page 9)
