BLOG — Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt issued a statement about Ole Miss junior QB Randall Mackey shortly after noon today.The native of Bastrop, La., was arrested by the Oxford Police Department at 12:26 a.m. Tuesday and charged with disorderly conduct- failure to comply. Mackey was released on a cash bond this morning at 9:05. The charge is a misdemeanor.
“We are currently gathering information on the incident involving Randall,” Nutt said in the statement. “Once we have all of the facts, we will determine the appropriate course of action.”
Mackey has been competing with sophomore Barry Brunetti and junior Zack Stoudt to replace Jeremiah Masoli as Ole Miss’ starting QB during preseason camp. Mackey was the No. 1 QB coming out of the spring and recently took snaps with the No. 1 offense this past week.
Nutt is expected to address the arrests of both Mackey and junior tight end Jamal Mosley after this evening’s practice session.
Mosley was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of public drunk. He was released later that morning. (August 23, 2011)
