After seeing footage of a fight on the Square last Monday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved a request from Oxford Police Department Chief Mike Martin to hire four new police officers to focus on the Downtown Business District.

Does the city really profit from the bars when they have to pay an additional $160,000 for security? It seems the bar owners have argued that they play an important part of of Oxfords Tax Base.
Whatever they spend on security they more than make up for in increased numbers of D.U.I.’s and alcohol-related tickets, I’m sure.
