Lee still looking for a No. 1 at QB spot

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Ole Miss football team heading into the 2011 season was which of the three quarterbacks on scholarship would become the starter for the season opener against BYU on Sept. 3.

A little more than a week after summer drills started, that same question remains unanswered as all three quarterbacks — Barry Brunetti, Randall Mackey and Zack Stoudt — remain locked in a tight race to become the frontrunner.

Ole Miss offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach David Lee looked at the situation in a positive fashion at the start of practice. From his perspective, the race to become the starter wasn’t the only thing to look at. Lee, in his first year since arriving from the Miami Dolphins is a veteran of the Southeastern Conference that felt like he had three players who could lead the offense each Saturday and three guys who have done nothing but work extremely hard in order to make the Rebels better this year. (August 16, 2011, Page 8)
