BLOG — Two defensive touchdowns proved to be the difference for the Lafayette Commodores in their 21-13 win over Southaven on Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium.Lafayette jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead on an interception return for a touchdown by Jeremiah Jones. Jones pick came on Southaven’s first offensive series of the game and gave the Commodores a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
Tevin Buford recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the second half for Lafayette’s second defensive touchdown. His fumble recovery increased the ‘Dores’ lead from 14-6 to 21-6 and gave them enough of a cushion to hold on after Southaven scored later in the second half.
QB Jeremy Liggins scored the only offensive touchdown of the game for Lafayette on a 1-yard run two plays after he set the score up with a 46-yard run down Southaven’s sidelines.
