Lafayette’s home volleyball opener went the way coach Rachel Wenzel was hoping with a 3-0 (25-3, 25-7, 25-8) win over H.W. Byers. LHS improved its record to 1-1 with the victory.
Rae Drewrey was fantastic as a server in the win as she recorded 25 aces, including 19 in a row in the first game. Drewrey also had a solo block and a kill in the victory for the Lady Commodores, who used Tuesday’s match as a tune-up heading into Thursday’s contest at Oxford.
Charlotte Rafnson also provided three digs in the win for LHS that gained the bulk of its points from miss-hits and errors made by H.W. Byers.
Wenzel said it was good for her team to earn the win after facing a tough team in Tupelo the opening weekend. (August 17, 2011, Page 7)
