Jackson a big part of ‘Dores success

There are a lot of reasons why the Lafayette Commodores have been one of Mississippi’s top teams since the start of the 2009 season. The outstanding play of quarterback Jeremy Liggins and Demarkous Dennis have keyed a potent offense, while players such as D.Q. Reynolds and Keeyon Tyson have led a very productive defensive unit.

But as good as the Commodores’ offensive and defensive units have been during that time period, the special teams, led by do-it-all kicker Tyler Jackson, has also been very productive.

LHS coach Anthony Hart said prior to the 2011season that the special teams unit always looks good when there is a reliable kicker on the roster. Luckily for Hart, they’ve had an outstanding kicker the last three seasons in Jackson. The senior, thanks to his dependability and consistency, is arguably the best all-around kicker/punter in the state even if he hasn’t gotten some of the accolades others have received. (August 26, 2011, Page 6A)
