14-U Oxford tennis team wins state title

Five teams, sponsored by the Oxford Park Commission and made up of players from Lafayette and Oxford High, recently competed in the USTA Junior Team Tennis State Championships held in Jackson.

The Intermediate 14-and-Under team won the title by defeating teams from Starkville, Laurel, Biloxi, Jackson, Madison and Ocean Springs. The team advance to play in the Southern Junior Team Tennis Championship in Mobile, Ala., on Aug. 19-21. The team was coached by Louis Nash, Debbie Swindoll and Ashley Freeman. That team included Emily Morgan, McClellan Davis, Swayze Elliott, Abby Pate, Liam Cooper, Gus Morgan, Nathan Hollis, Max Mauney and Sam Peeler.
Other teams that competed in the state tournament included:

Advanced 18-and-Under: Mallory Davis, Ann Marie Edlin, Lauren Cullen, Sarah Nash, Kara Rose, Embrey Inman, Quinn Ellliott, Callan Shinall, Will Swindoll, Jacob Roberts, Hunter Knight and Collier Phillips.

Intermediate 18-and-Under: Cari Hansen, Madison Cobb, Abby Daniels, Ellie Devoe, Haley Hamann, Eliza Williams, Arlis Williams, Robert Nance, Baxter Elliott, Garrett Reed, Austin Arrington, Cole Atkins, Judson Watson and Matt Forgette.
Intermediate 14-and-Under: Ivy Abel, Zekarah Nelms, Cara Stewart, Graham Nance, Luke Cannon, Jacob Commer, Easton Wilson, Harrison Atkinson, Thomas Hinton and Owen Bernard.

Intermediate 12-and-Under: Reed Cooper, Barrett Childress, Eli Abel, Joshua Morgan, Nicholas Hollis, Jonathon Masters, Abby Arrington, Claire Stevens, Rachel Reed, Ally Shinall and Cara-Anne Sallis. (August 3, 2011, Page 9)
