Having posted a 140-193 record over the last five seasons, and most recently a 14-39 mark, it was obvious the next coach of the Ole Miss softball program needed to be one that had experience building a program.
With an eye toward that exact need, Ole Miss announced Thursday that it has hired Windy Thees as its next head coach. Thees doesn’t have to travel far, having spent the last six years at Memphis.
It was there that she started the Lady Tigers’ program and turned it into an NCAA Tournament team — a feat three previous coaches have been unable to do at Ole Miss in 15 seasons.
Last season Thees’ Lady Tigers posted a 36-14 overall record, including a 1-2 mark in the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Regional, and was 184-154 overall during her time in the Bluff City. (July 1, 2011, Page 8A)
