June 7 was one of the most exciting days in Michael Reed’s young baseball career.
Having been drafted in the fifth round by the Milwaukee Brewers, Reed was openly excited about the opportunity to turn pro and fulfill what is a dream of high school baseball players from coast to coast.
Almost a month has passed, however, and Reed is still in Leander, Texas, playing travel ball and giving lessons to the next crop of baseball players.
It isn’t often that a player openly yearns to play in in the low minor leagues like rookie ball, but that’s all Reed wants to do right now.
According to Reed, the process, in large part because he’s asking for a dollar figure above the suggested slot for his draft position, has taken longer than he would have preferred. (July 1, 2011, Page 9A)
