Snyder fortunate despite injury

Ole Miss’ Matt Snyder realizes exactly how fortunate he is.

After being hit just below his right eye in his first game for the Haymarket Senators of the Valley League summer league, he’s fortunate to still have his eyesight — and, frankly, to be alive.

After having numerous reconstructive surgeries, Snyder is fortunate he can once again step into a batter’s box — he did so for the first time since June 4 on Wednesday, although, at his mother’s insistence, he’s wearing a partial shield to protect his face from future errant throws.

And, after all that he has gone through, he’s fortunate his dream of playing professional baseball is still alive. (July 1, 2011, Page 9A)
