HOOVER, Ala. — Led by senior offensive tackle Bradley Sowell and senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett, the Ole Miss Rebels had a total of six players named to the 2011 Southeastern Conference Media Days All-SEC team. The team is selected each year by the media and a total of 167 votes were cast this season.
The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Sowell and the 6-5, 248-pound Lockett were both named to the first team on offense and defense respectively.
Joining Sowell from of the offensive side of the ball were fellow lineman, junior Bobby Massie (6-6, 325) on the second team and senior running back Brandon Bolden (5-11, 221) on the third team.
Junior punter Tyler Campbell was named to the second-team specialist list, while junior Bryson Rose was named to the third team as a place-kicker.
Mississippi State offensive linemen Addison Lawrence and Gabe Jackson both made the third-team offense, but no other Bulldog was named to the first or second team on offense.
Junior defensive tackle Fletcher Cox was the only other Bulldog on the list. He was named to the second-team defense.
Last in the West
Ole Miss wasn’t picked by the media to finish high in the SEC West this season. The Rebels were picked sixth, behind Auburn, while Alabama was picked first to win the West and the overall title. Mississippi State was picked to finish fourth in the West this season.
South Carolina was tabbed to win the SEC East, while Georgia was picked to finish second. (July 22, 2011, Page 8A)
