Rebels get commitment from Missouri TE

On June 4 Austin Ray trekked south from Columbia, Mo., to Oxford to participate in one of Ole Miss’ football camps.

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound tight end impressed the coaching staff enough to garner his first offer from a FBS program.

Last weekend, Ray once again participated in an Ole Miss football camp, and after heading home for a couple of days, he verbally committed to the Rebels on Wednesday. (more…) (July 28, 2011, Page 8A)

Cook ready to take next step in his life

COLUMN: One of the most inspirational and devoted football players to play at Ole Miss is ready for a new chapter in his life.

Jason Cook, a former fullback under coaches David Cutcliffe, Ed Orgeron and current coach Houston Nutt, will be leaving Oxford Saturday for Birmingham, Ala., to start a three-year journey that will culminate with a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School. Three former Rebels sign on with pro teams

Former Ole Miss players Jeremiah Masoli and Jonathan Cornell signed rookie free agent deals with NFL squads on Wednesday.

Masoli inked with the San Francisco 49ers as a running back, while Cornell signed with the Tennessee Titans as a linebacker. According to the Twitter account of former Ole Miss cornerback Jeremy McGee, the New Orleans native has been signed to a free agent deal by the New York Jets this morning. Dean Faulkner Wells 1936-2011

OXFORD TOWN – An Oxford icon, Dean Faulkner Wells, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, just months after her memoir “Every Day By The Sun” published and was featured on the cover of Oxford Town. OT columnist and long time friend of the Wells family, Jim Dees, has gathered photos and passages from interviews and the late author’s’ book to pay tribute to one of Oxford’s favorite daughters who is already greatly missed.
