Oxford’s Fondren headed to France

Oxford standout high jumper Justin Fondren is headed to Lille, France to compete in the 7th IAAF World Youth Championships next week.

The competition, for athletes 17 and under, begins Tuesday and runs through July 10.

Fondren, who finished first earlier this summer New Balance Outdoor National Championship, will be looking to become the first Charger to win a gold medal outside the United States.

Fondren recently qualified for the trip after another standout performance at the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championship trials held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (July 1, 2011, Page 9A)
