Finish at World Youth games inspires Fondren

District and regional champion? Check.

State champion? Check.

National champion? Check.

Top three in the world? Check.

Oxford High’s Justin Fondren became the most successful high jumper in Chargers history when he won the state championship in May.

His amazing list of accomplishments only increased last month when he placed first at the New Balance Track & Field Championships and was only amplified nine days ago when he won the bronze at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France.

Fondren finished third in the world with a leap of 6-feet, 11.75-inches. His mark was actually the same height his competitors cleared, but Fondren ended up winning the bronze due to having two misses. (July 18, 2011, Page 6)
