Virtual unknown leads pack at St. Jude Classic

MEMPHIS — A virtual unknown on the PGA Tour was the first-round leader Thursday at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. David Mathis, who only has one career win on the tour, entered the tournament held at the TPC at Southwind ranked No. 273 in the world.

On Thursday, Mathis shot by all the big names on tour as he owned the Par-70 course by shooting a personal-best score of 65. Mathis recorded six birdies during his round and had 11 pars  on the remaining 12 holes. (June 10, 2011, Page 8A)
