OMS hoops ends successful summer
The Oxford Middle School hoops squads had a successful summer. The seventh-graders went 2-0 in yesterday’s Oxford Shootout tournament against North Delta and Kirk Academy to finish the summer with an 8-2 record, while the eighth-grade squad also went 2-0 against the same opponents to post a 16-1 record for the summer. - Bobby Dee “Buddy” King — 60, died Sunday, June 26, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 6 this evening at the funeral home.
- Raymond Thornton — 90, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his home in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

However, in Lafayette County, as long as the signs are not permanently installed into the ground, they can be in the right of way, as long as they are not blocking line of sight for traffic. Two nursing home workers arrested in unrelated cases
A nurse at Graceland Care Center was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing hydrocodone pills and a maintenance worker at Yalobusha County Nursing Home was arrested Monday for allegedly fondling a patient. Both arrests stem from investigations by the Attorney General’s Office Medicaid Fraud Control Department. (June 28, 2011, Page 2)
School board upholds coach’s firing
A final decision in the reassignment and non-renewal of Lafayette High softball coach Catherine Papagolos was reached Monday evening by the Lafayette County School Board.
In a unanimous decision following a 42-minute executive session meeting, the board elected to follow through with a recommendation made by LHS Athletics Director Jeff Nelson back in March to not renew Papagolos as the team’s head coach for the 2012 season. (June 28, 2011, Page 1)
OMS principal hired to head LHS
Patrick Robinson resigned from Oxford School District and was hired by Lafayette School District on Monday. Robinson will be the new principal at LHS. Jeff Clay was hired to become the new principal at OMS. (June 28, 2011, Page 2)
