Election Forums

Several election forums are planned in the coming weeks to give voters an opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for elected office this year. The local veterans’ organizations’ are sponsoring “Meet Your Candidate” day at the Veterans Building, located at southeast corner of South Lamar Boulevard and Veterans Drive, on July 16. The program will start at 11 a.m. Candidates are welcome to come anytime after 9 and mingle with the public. Spaghetti plates will be sold at noon and a cake auction will also be held. Candidates are also invited to speak at the election forum that will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. later that same day at the Yocona Community Center, located on Highway 334 in Yocona. In addition to the candidates, handmade quilts and cakes baked by the Yocona Homemakers Club will be auctioned. Barbecue plates will also be available. Local and state candidates have been invited to attend the Tri-Lakes Fairgrounds Political Rally at 6 p.m. on July 16, as well. The candidates will gather at the gazebo in the Water Valley City Park. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available.
