Mid-town Farmers’ Market certified

The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce officially recognized the Mid-Town Farmer’s Market as part of its certification program recently. The market meets on Wednesdays from noon to 5:30 and Saturdays from 7  to 11 a.m. (June 30, 2011, Page 2)

  • Paul Stephenson Frady — 80, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at his home in Coffeeville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeeville. Burial will follow in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 this evening at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley.
  • Helen Hairston — 92, of Water Valley died Monday, June 27, 2011. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill North M.B. Church in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley.

Tough loss doesn’t sour summer season

Oxford’s summer season came to a disappointing end on Wednesday.

Looking to make a run in the NEMCABB Tournament hosted at the New Albany Sportsplex, a young Oxford squad was upended by Alcorn Central 8-2.

Brassell latest to qualify for Rebels

The good news keeps coming for the Ole Miss football team. Joining recent qualifiers Tobias Singleton and Jamal Mosley is South Panola All-American Nick Brassell.

According to RebelGrove.com and The Ole Miss Spirit, Brassell received news on Wednesday that he has achieved a qualifying ACT score and is enrolled in Ole Miss’ second summer session. (more…) (June 30, 2011, Page 6)

Bush returning to help coach OHS Chargers

A familiar face will be back on the Oxford High track this upcoming spring to help keep the Chargers in contention for state championships.

Chris Bush, who helped lead the OHS boys track team to state title in 2007, returns as an assistant coach to Scott Kendricks after four years at Ole Miss. Bush will help with the relays and sprinters during his time at OHS, Kendricks said, and then build on his coaching resume from there. (June 30, 2011, Page 6)

Petting Zoo comes to library

The Animal Tales program based out of Kentucky traveled to the Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library on Wednesday to let kids learn hands on about different animals across the globe. (June 30, 2011, Page 1)
