This year’s championship victory ‘sweet’ for everyone

RIDGELAND — “Sweet” was one of the first words Oxford coach Louis Nash used to describe the feeling he had about his Chargers winning a fourth straight state team tennis championship on Monday morning at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.
For a man who has the ability to use just a few words to communicate a bevy of teaching points to his players or describe how a match was played, the word “sweet” may sum up Oxford’s Class 5A tennis win over Stone County better than any.

The Chargers (19-1 overall) showed yet another opponent why they are the best tennis program in the state by defeating the Tomcats 5-2 and in the process, how they win with class. The victory was the second Class 5A title for the school, which has now won six overall tennis titles and four under Nash, who showed tremendous respect for Stone County and their supporters immediately following the match during the trophy presentation.

Instead of basking in the glory that the Chargers so richly deserved, Nash made sure that everyone in attendance knew how competitive Monday’s match was for his team to experience and how well Stone County (May 10, 2011, Page 6)
