Smith plays well in return for Rebs

Ole Miss got off to a slow start on Tuesday before piling on six runs in two innings en route to a 10-6 victory over the Southeast Missouri Redhawks at Oxford-University Stadium.

While it was good for the Rebels to get a win in its make-up game against the Ohio Valley opponent, the real story was the return of Matt Smith.
The senior outfielder made his first appearance in an Ole Miss uniform since undergoing surgery on his left hand less than two weeks ago and made the most of it.

After having a plate inserted around the third metacarpal in his left hand 12 days ago, Smith reached base each of the five times he came to the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, one walk and one run scored.

With his three RBIs, Smith moved into a tie with former outfielder Logan Power for the most RBIs all-time at Ole Miss with 183 for his career. (May 18, 2011, Page 6)
