Rebs excluded from NCAA Tournament

BLOG: For the first time since the 2002 season the Ole Miss baseball team will not be competing in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Earlier today the NCAA announced its field of 64 teams for the tournament during a selection show on ESPN and Ole Miss (30-25 overall) was not included.

The Rebels’ exclusion officially ends what ended up being a difficult season with Ole Miss registering the fewest wins since Mike Bianco took over the program prior to the 2001 season.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the selection show was LSU (36-20), who was left out of the field of 64 despite an RPI of 26.

The SEC tied the Atlantic Coast Conference with seven programs making the tournament.

Included from the SEC were Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Florida.

Southern Miss and Alcorn State (SWAC Tournament champion) both made the tournament
