Oxford tennis rolls to North Half

The Oxford netters made quick work of Pearl on Saturday, topping the Pirates 7-0 on the road in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. Zach Wilder defeated Gary Blissard 6-0, 6-0 and Ann Marie Edlin defeated Emily Craven 6-1, 6-2 to pick up the singles points.
In No. 1 doubles, Robert Nance and Baxter Elliott defeated Alex Alexander and Kruz Vanderford 6-3, 6-1. Will Swindoll and Quinn Elliott defeated David Hardin and Chase Ming 6-0, 6-0 for the No. 2 doubles point.

Mary Bryan Barksdale and Sterling Davis blanked Miranda Hawkins and Nia Thigpen 6-0, 6-0 for the No. 1 girl’s doubles point, while Kara Rose and McClellan Davis did the same to Carlee Comans and Kathy Hernandez, shutting out their Pirate counterparts 6-0, 6-0.

Andrew Mullen and Erin Dyer claimed the mixed doubles point, defeating Abram Hernandez and Candace Jackson 6-0, 6-1.

Oxford (17-1 overall) will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Hernando at 4 p.m. at Avent Park. (May 2, 2011, Page 3B)
