Oxford-Pearl to battle again Saturday at 5A North Half meet

Most people would say that the most competitive track meet of the season happens the final weekend when the best teams and the best athletes square off at Pearl High School at the state meet.

But if there was ever an exception to that rule, it would be the Class 5A North Half meet that will take place at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field on Saturday. The Chargers and Lady Chargers host a bevy of talented teams this weekend, including the school’s nemesis, Pearl.

The meet begins at noon with field events and cost to enter is $5. Oxford’s boys and girls both finished second to Pearl in last year’s North Half meet and both teams are looking to change that this time around.
For the Chargers, who have split the last four state titles with Pearl since the 2007 season, and coach Scott Kendricks, Saturday’s meet is all about qualifying athletes for May 13, the date of the state meet. (May 6, 2011, Page 6A)
