McCullough, Mills on All-State teams

Successful seasons on the baseball diamond has led to more accolades for a pair of cousins. Lafayette’s Josh Mills and Water Valley’s Walt McCullough were named to Coaches All-State baseball teams on Tuesday.

Mills, who helped lead the Commodores to a 23-7 overall mark in 2011 and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, was named to the first team in 4A, while McCullough, who helped lead the Blue Devils to an 18-11 mark and a third-round appearance in the 3A playoffs, was also named to the first team in 3A.
Both Mills and McCullough were named Offensive Most Valuable Players in their respective districts and their offensive prowess led to them being recognized by coaches from around the state who helped pick the teams.

Mills led LHS in batting average (.494), home runs (eight), RBIs (52), runs scored (34) and stolen 14 bases, while McCullough led the Blue Devils in average (.481) and home runs (10).

McCullough was second on the team in RBIs (38) and runs (33). (May 25, 2011, Page 6)
