Devils unable to keep up with Troopers

A return trip to Jackson to play in the MHSAA’s Class 3A title series was not in the cards for the Water Valley Blue Devils this season. A year after winning the Class 3A North Half title and playing Sumrall in Pearl at the state championship series, the Blue Devils were defeated by Mooreville in the quarterfinals on Saturday night.
WVHS faced the tough task of defeating the Troopers two more times to advance to this year’s 3A North Half title series after sweeping the regular season series with their region foe.
A night after losing 12-8 to the Troopers at Blue Devil Field, Water Valley’s season came to an end with a 13-2 loss in five innings.

Mooreville will now play Ripley for the right to represent the North in the title series.

The Troopers (20-11-1 overall) never trailed in the contest as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning against WVHS starter Walt McCullough, two in the second and nine runs in the decisive fourth inning. (May 9, 2011, Page 3B)
