Lafayette’s Mallory Davis and Barron Pruitt made history Tuesday as the duo captured the first individual state tennis championship in Jackson. The duo defeated Newton County’s Blake Cochran and Shannon St. Clarie 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 to win the match. Davis and Pruitt defeated Cole Morrow and Taylor Long of Purvis to advance on the first day.
Also competing in the individual tournament were the No. 1 boys doubles team of Hunter Knight and Jacob Roberts and the No. 1 girls doubles team of Lauren Cullen and Ashley Smith.
Both teams advance to the semifinals before losing on Tuesday. (May 11, 2011, Page 6)
