Chargers gain respect in Game 2 win

It seems the biggest mistake the Ridgeland Titans made on Saturday was actually before their MHSAA Class 5A North Half title series game with Oxford at Edwin Moak Field.
Just shortly after the Titans arrived on the OHS campus to play the second game of the best-of-three series, Chargers coach Chris Baughman saw the Titans huddled around each other on the bus listening to the Internet broadcast of the 5A South Half series between Long Beach and Vancleave.

Baughman saw what he needed to see and then made his way up to the OHS locker room to talk with his players about the upcoming game with the Titans, who won the first game of the series on Thursday and seemed to think their tickets were already punched for a return trip to Jackson. The message was received, but not in a good way, not for the Titans, who fell 5-1 to the Chargers to even the series and force a deciding game tonight at RHS.

From Baughman’s perspective, the snafu only fired up the Chargers (19-11 overall) even more to win the contest. (May 16, 2011, Page 3B)
