BLOG: Led by a strong pitching performance from left-hander Nick Routt the Mississippi State Bulldogs up-ended Ole Miss 7-4 at Oxford-University Stadium.Routt allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in 5.1 innings for MSU.
Ole Miss starter David Goforth took the loss, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings on seven hits and one walk. He also struck out six.
The Bulldogs took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning and never trailed.
Ole Miss attempted to put together a bit of a rally in the ninth inning, putting the first two batters on base.
MSU coach John Cohen opted to go to closer Caleb Reed for the second straight night.
Reed got Blake Newalu to hit into a double play on the first pitch he threw (Anderson scored on the ground out), and Alex Yarbrough grounded out to first to end the game.
