A week of waiting to find out who the Water Valley Blue Devils would play in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs was answered Monday morning. After deliberations with the MHSAA over the weekend failed to produce an opponent, word came mid-morning that Leflore County would be the No. 3 seed to play the Blue Devils.
A doubleheader was set for Monday afternoon and a little over three hours after the Tigers arrived at Blue Devil Field, WVHS was able to win two games, 17-0, 13-0, and advanced to a second round meeting with Kossuth this weekend.
For WVHS coach Kary Bridges, who seemingly spent more time on the phone trying to figure out his opponent than he did coaching the Blue Devils to victory Monday, the wins did present some positives against a team that was clearly inferior. (April 26, 2011, Page 6)
