Rebels show pro, cons in first scrimmage

Saturday’s scrimmage at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium provided a mixed bag of results for the Ole Miss coaching staff to build on.

There was the good: Randall Mackey showed consistency passing the ball, the defense provided a constant presence in the offensive backfield, the tight ends looked like reliable targets, head coach Houston Nutt said he liked the attitudes he saw from the defense and incumbent kicker Bryson Rose connected on all four field goals from 40 yards and beyond.
There was also the bad: Veteran quarterback Nathan Stanley completed just 3 of 10 passes for 11 yards, the receivers dropped several touchdown passes and offensively, according to Nutt, the Rebels could never get 11 players on the same page. (April 4, 2011, Page 6A)
