Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy continued to tailor his staff on Monday with the announced hiring of one new assistant coach and the promotion of a current staff member.
Kennedy hired Al Pinkins away from Middle Tennessee State, a place he served as Kermit Davis’ assistant for eight seasons, while Billl Armstrong, the team’s coordinator of operations last year, was elevated to an assistant coaching role on the staff. The vacancies were made possible after Michael White left to become the head coach at Louisiana Tech last month and Torrey Ward left the staff to pursue other coaching opportunities Kennedy said.
Owen Miller is now the only returning member of the staff that was originally hired by Kennedy over five years ago.
Pinkins is a graduate of N.C. State and has recruited the state of Mississippi during his time at MTSU. He is considered a top recruiter and has been credited with doing a good job of developing post players, including first team All-Sun Belt forward Desmond Yates and 6-10 center Theryn Hudson, who topped the Sun Belt in field goal percentage during the 2007-2008.
