Pitching, timely hitting lifts LMS to win

Pitching and timely hitting propelled the Lafayette Middle School baseball team back into the title game of the Tri-Lakes Conference. The No. 2 seed Commodores defeated Marshall Academy 5-0 on Thursday at W.V. Brewer Field to advance to a meeting with No. 1 seed Oxford on Monday at Edwin Moak Field.
Lafayette got a complete-game pitching performance from Austin Arrington on the mound, and then scored three of its five runs on four hits in the third inning to extend a 1-0 lead. Lafayette coach Ryan Taylor said he was proud of the way his team played in the win, and the approach his team took heading into the contest. (April 15, 2011, Page 6A)
