The Oxford tennis team made quick work of Grenada at home on Thursday, defeating the visiting Chargers squad 6-1 to extend its winning streak to 119 matches.
Quinn Elliott topped Jaime Fortier 6-0, 6-0 in the boy’s singles match and Ann Marie Edlin knocked off Leigh Ann Hunt 6-2, 6-1 in the gir’s singles match.
The duo of Zach Wilder and Andrew Mullin won the No. 1 boy’s doubles match 6-4, 6-4 over Hunter Boxx and Thomas Braswell.
Kara Rose and Embry Inman won the No. 2 girl’s doubles match 6-3, 6-2 over Etta Jennings and Abby Vance, while Sterling Davis and Mary Bryan Barksdale claimed the No. 1 girl’s doubles point with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alexandria Brasher and Cassie Bennett.
Baxter Elliott and Erin Dyer defeated Sarah Kate Griffin and Chance Holland 6-1, 6-0 to earn the mixed doubles point.
Oxford’s only loss came in the No. 2 boy’s doubles match, where Robert Nance and Will Swindoll lost to Winston Lee and Thomas Guy 6-4, 7-5. (April 8, 2011, Page 8A)
