Oxford’s boys track team defeated Tupelo to win the title at the Daily Journal Relays on Saturday. The Chargers totaled 202 points compared to Tupelo’s 168 point total to capture the crown.
Oxford’s girls finished sixth out of 17 teams competing in the event with 100.33 points. Pontotoc won the girls title with 173 points, Corinth was second with 156, while Tupelo was third with 142.
Sam Kendricks led the boys team with a vault of 16 feet, 0.5 inch to capture the title. The mark was the highest vault ever recorded by a high school boy in the state. The state record, which can only be set at the state meet, was 15-7 set by Steven Greer of Clinton. Kendricks was just one of several OHS athletes who claimed a field even title.
