OMS Chargers nip LMS in title game

The competitive rivalry between Oxford and Lafayette in baseball doesn’t just reside with the high school players. For the third time this season, the two middle school programs locked horns in a battle that came down to the end of a game and ended up going in the Chargers’ favor.

Oxford rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning to post a 6-5 win over Lafayette to capture the Tri-Lakes Conference title at Edwin Moak Field on Monday night. The victory was the third rivalry win of the season for the Chargers, who were able to secure their first conference title as well as a perfect record (7-0) in games that counted within the division.
Jack McClure provided the biggest hit for the Chargers in the win as he drove in Matthew Guyton and Tyler Hallam with a one-out single to right field against Lafayette reliever John Murphree.

McClure, who struck out with a runner on third base in the first inning, said he was nervous heading to the plate, but knew he had to come through. (April 19, 2011, Page 2B)
