Ole Miss loses Shackelford to torn ACL

Ole Miss’ defense was dealt a major blow Tuesday when team physicians and the medical staff confirmed that junior linebacker D.T. Shackelford suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right leg.
The 6-foot-1, 244-pound native of Decautur, Ala., suffered the injury going through drills on Monday at the indoor practice facility. Head football trainer Tim Mullins said Tuesday that an MRI was performed on Shackelford, who made 48 tackles and led the team with five sacks last year, while Monday’s practice was still going on. The MRI revealed a torn ACL, as well as some other damage to the meniscus, and the staff waited until Tuesday to announce the news before moving forward with treatment for the injury. (April 13, 2011, Page 8)
