OHS tennis blanks West Point

The Oxford tennis program bounced back from its first loss in 121 matches by sweeping West Point 7-0 on Thursday.
Zach Wilder defeated Drew Shirley 6-0, 6-0 in boy’s singles, and Ann Marie Edlin knocked off Keyanna Brandon 6-2, 6-0 in the girl’s singles match.

Judson Watson and Arlis Williams combined to beat Nate Prather and Brandon Edwards 6-0, 6-1 to earn the No. 1 boy’s doubles point, while Quinn Elliott and Sam Peeler blanked Dusty Swartz and Cody Dennis 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.

In the No. 1 girl’s doubles match Sterling Davis and Erin Dyer combined to beat Kamaron Calvert and Brooks Armstrong 6-0, 6-0, while Abby Daniels and Katie Krouse blanked Everka Robertson and Chelsea Ricks 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 girl’s doubles match.

Cari Hansen and Collier Phillips beat Carson Miller and Brittany Matvsiak 6-3, 6-3 in mixed doubles.

Oxford improves to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in Division 2-5A with the win and will travel to Pontotoc on Monday. (April 15, 2011, Page 8A)
