OHS tennis blanks Pontotoc

Oxford’s final regular season match of the season ended with a 7-0 win over Pontotoc on Monday. The Chargers made short work of the Warriors thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win by Zach Wilder at boys singles and a 6-3, 6-0 win by Ann Marie Edlin over Kristen Pennigton. The No. 1 boys doubles team of Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance topped Cam Temmons and Ryan Henry 6-3 6-3, while the No. 2 boys doubles team of Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll beat Denton McAuley and Brandon Temmons 6-4, 6-0.
The No. 1 girls doubles team of Mary Bryan Barksdale and Sterling Davis defeated Katherine Downing and Frankie Turner 6-0, 6-2, while Kara Rose and Embrey Inman dispatched Haylee Walker and Anna Chrestman 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 girls doubles spot.

In mixed doubles, Erin Dyer and Andrew Mullen beat Jacob Ferguson and Anna Wing 6-1, 6-3. Oxford will return to team action on Friday at home against Clarksdale in the first round of the 5A playoffs. Individuals will take part in the Division 2-5A tournament at Itawamba Community College on Wednesday. (April 19, 2011, Page 3B)
