The Chargers bounced back from Thursday’s road loss to Amory and pitcher Will Cox by defeating the Panthers 10-6 at Edwin Moak Field on Saturday. Dustin Williams earned the win in relief for the Chargers, who used the two-game series with Amory to stay in shape for the upcoming Class 5A playoffs. OHS scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then overcame deficits three times to earn a come-from-behind win.
The Chargers had 14 hits as a team, while Amory had four errors overall. William Elliott and Henry Webb led OHS with three hits apiece, while Zac Barber led the team with four RBIs. One of Barber’s hits was a home run. Elliott also had three RBIs as well as a double. One of Webb’s hits was a double, while Luke Gibbs’ lone hit was a double.
Shae Mnichowski, who also had two hits, started the game for the Chargers. He was followed on the mound by James Lear. The Chargers’ series with Hernando will begin Friday at home at 6 p.m. (April 25, 2011, Page 3B)
