Wins in three of the five doubles matches and another strong performance from Mallory Davis helped lift the Lafayette Commodores to a hard-fought 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Clarksdale Wednesday afternoon.
Davis dispatched her opponent, Theresa Jackson, 6-0, 6-1 to gain one of the four points necessary to win.
The No. 1 girls doubles team of Ashley Smith and Lauren Cullen sizzled in their match as they defeated Taboria Orange and Kierra Eckles 6-0, 6-0 as did Lafayette’s No. 2 boys doubles team of Jacob Roberts and Hunter Knight, who blanked David Henley and Alejandro Carillo 6-0, 6-0.
Rounding out the doubles wins for Lafayette was Tyler Odom and Brittany Mann, who outlasted Jasmine Pittman and Quintarus Gardner 7-5, 6-1. Clarksdale earned a win at boys singles when James Jackson topped Garrett Reed, 6-1, 6-0; at No. 1 boys doubles where Ambrose Wilson and Xavier Newsome defeated Barron Pruitt and T.J. Hollis 6-1, 7-5 and at No. 2 girls doubles where Shanta Sykes and Portia Jackson outlasted Hayley Hamann and Abbey Pate 7-6, 1-6, 10-5.
